With the goal of educating potential visitors and organizations considering doing business in Hawaii about the State’s "green initiatives," The Hawaii Convention Center hired PRTech to develop a microsite in English and then develop microsites that would appeal to Asia-Pacific markets.
To do this, PRTech worked closely with the Hawaii Convention Center to create its English microsite, and then mirror that site in Chinese (simplified and traditional), Japanese, and Korean. "While the sites were developed to look like the English site, they are slightly different based on preferences of the target market. Words were not just translated, but copywritten as well," said PRTech’s lead developer Jon Yamaoka.
The microsites showcase the benefits of renewable energy at work on an unprecedented scale in Hawaii, featuring an introduction on clean energy, resources, venues, and articles on the subject. Sixteen videos show industry leaders speaking about "green" efforts on behalf of their companies. Speakers represent: Better Place; Hawaiian Electric Company; Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows; Honolulu Seawater Air Conditioning; Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority; Sopogy; Parker Ranch; and Governor Linda Lingle from the State of Hawaii.
Each Asian language microsite took about one month to develop after the English microsite was completed, including subtitling the site’s 16 videos in each of the languages. The development teams for each of the microsites were comprised of four or five PRTech multilingual, online technology software engineers, and translators. Computer languages used included: HTML, CSS, and Flash. PRTech will update and maintain the sites.
Yamaoka said, "The site successfully provides a platform to introduce the Hawaii Convention Center’s ‘green’ initiatives to their target market."
